Which opamp do you use in your Tubescreamer clones? PDF Print E-mail

I build the clone with a JCR4558D in an IC socket so that it can easily be switched out with other opamps after construction.

Which opamp to use in the ts808 circuit is a matter of personal preference. I can order you a few different choices and show you how to swap them.

JCR4558D is the classic tubescreamer opamp. I personally like the Texas Instruments/Burr-Brown OP2604AP. NE5532 and TL072 opamps have their own sound too. Some people like the RC4558P but I don't think it sounds better than the 4558D. LM1458 has a great hi-def sound of it's own.
