Building A TS-808 Tube Screamer Clone PDF Print E-mail

Tube ScreamerJust though I'd drop a quick note about my newest build... It's just another tube screamer... all hand wired of course... I built it so that I could A/B opamps against each other on stage. I guess I'm looking for the opamp that oozes harmonics or something like that... I don't know. Anyway, check out the photos. Have fun.

My Analog Mulit-Effects Unit: In Progress PDF Print E-mail

Just thought I'd drop an update about my newest electronics project. I'm building an analogue multi-fx unit for myself.

I've been gigging with various pedal board configurations for the last few years and at this point I know exactly what I use, so I figure why not put it all in one box? I'm merging all of my favorite circuits into one big box so that I only have to carry my multi-fx box, a wah wah and sometimes a delay.. I might add delay to the multi-fx later...

Boutique Fuzz Face PDF Print E-mail

The fuzz face is one of my favorites. The Fuzz Face has a thick sweet distortion like nothing else. It can clean up as you roll back your guitar's volume knob and create yet another wonderful and useful tone. What a great design. When I build your fuzz face you are getting the real thing. I use a real tie-dyed shirt to cover the box... every one is one of a kind.

Fuzz Face Fixes and Mods PDF Print E-mail

Man, I love the sound of a good fuzz face... there is nothing quite like it.  I love it's huge tone that rips through the mix and also it's elegant rhythm tone that shines through when you roll back the guitar's volume to clean up the distortion just right.

AMZ Mini-Booster PDF Print E-mail

amz mini booster frontThe mini-booster is one of the most used pedals I've ever built. It's a popular build in the effects community and everyone seems to love it. I know I do.  Even the Fulltone Fat Boost was based on this design, but this circuit was originally created by Jack Orman as an adaptation of a circuit from National Semiconductor's app-note AN-32.

Some people would say that it is not a transparent boost because it adds a bit of sparkle to the high frequencies... This is true... It may not be "transparent" but it does retain the sound of your instrument or whatever you put in front of it. Transparent or not, it's a damn good sounding gain stage. When people play my gear at the jam they always love this one.

Green/Red Boost Prototype PDF Print E-mail

Green/Red BoostThis is the prototype for my newest design.  It's a true clean boost with 18 volts of transparent headroom.

There are two levels of boost which can be selected by pressing the footswitch on the right.  Th prototype is called green/red because those are the LED colors that light up depending on if you've selected the first level of boost or the second.
